Michael Abowd, MD Oculoplastic Surgery/General Ophthalmology Dr. Abowd is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and is fellowship-trained
in Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery. His practice includes comprehensive ophthalmology
and cataract surgery. Dr. Abowd’s sub-specialty interests include the medical and
surgical treatment of eyelid, eye socket and tear drain disorders: therapeutic and
cosmetic eyelid surgery, eyelid tumors, eyelid and eye socket trauma and reconstruction,
tearing problems, and BOTOX treatment.
John C. Burchfield, MD Glaucoma Management Dr. Burchfield is a native of Toledo, and specializes in glaucoma surgery. Dr. Burchfield
specializes in advance techniques in the diagnosis and medical and surgical management
of glaucoma. As part of this specialty, he also performs cataract surgery, ranging
from simple to complex cases with other coexisting eye diseases. He has received numerous
awards for clinical care and teaching and is the division chief for UTMC ophthalmology.
Matthew Currie, MD Comprehensive ophthalmology and cataract surgery Dr. Currie graduated summa cum laude from the University of Notre Dame. After Rush
Medical College, he trained in ophthalmology at the St. Louis University School of
Medicine. He has a special interest in cataract surgery and sees patients in several
of our offices.
|Hooman Harooni, MD Cornea and Refractive Surgery/LASIK Dr. Harooni is a native of Los Angeles, graduating with honors from UCLA. He received
his medical training at the University of Cincinnati, residency training at Medical
College of Georgia, and received his cornea fellowship training at The Cleveland Clinic.
He joins us from the faculty of the George Washington University ophthalmology department.
Dr. Harooni has special expertise in all corneal diseases including the latest techniques
in corneal transplantation, endothelial cell transplants, refractive surgery, LASIK,
and many other procedures.
|Rodney W. McCarthy, MD, FACS Oculoplastic Surgery and Comprehensive Ophthalmology Dr. McCarthy performs a full range of general medical and surgical care. He specializes
in cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery involving the eyes, eyelids, and related
|Jason Ofori, MD FACS Comprehensive Ophthalmology and Cataract Surgery Dr. Ofori is a comprehensive general ophthalmologist. He performs eye examinations
on adults and children and performs the full range of general medical and surgical
|Scott Sadowski, OD Comprehensive Optometry and Contact Lenses Dr. Sadowski offers comprehensive optometric care at the Bowling Green office. In
addition to a full range of primary eye care services, he also specializes in contact
|Michele Schlagheck, OD Comprehensive Optometry and Contact Lenses Dr. Michele Schlagheck provides comprehensive optometric care. She has a special
interest is in contact lens fitting including patients who have been told that they
were "difficult to fit." Dr. Schlagheck has extensive experience and success with
fitting bifocal and other special design contact lenses.
|Nahrain Shasteen, OD Pediatric optometry After graduating from the Ohio State University's optometry school, Dr. Shasteen
received advanced fellowship training in pediatric optometry and binocular vision
disorders. She runs our amblyopia and vision training program working with our surgeons
for those of her patients requiring eye muscle surgery. Dr. Shasteen is a fellow of
the American Academy of Optometry.
|Jeffery N. Stephens, MD Retina Surgery/Diabetes/Macular Degeneration Dr. Stephens also specializes in medical and surgical care of the retina. He has
extensive training in the care of macular degeneration and diabetes and also offers
care of pediatric retinal problems. Dr. Stephens provides all types of retinal surgery
and management as part of the regions only comprehensive retinal service. He sees
patients in Toledo, Defiance, and Monroe, MI.
|Gerald S. Striph, MD Neuro-Ophthalmology/Comprehensive Ophthalmology Dr. Striph was fellowship-trained in neurologic diseases of the eye and visual systems
at the Wilmer Ophthalmological institute of the Johns Hopkins Hospital after serving
an ophthalmology residency at the Washington University School of Medicine (St. Louis).
Dr. Striph performs eye examinations and second opinions for patients of all ages with
primary focuses in neuro-ophthalmology, medical problems affecting the eyes, and cataract
surgery. In addition to routine eye care, he performs "no-stitch no-shot" cataract
and implant surgery as well as eyelid and eye muscle surgery.
