The Urology residency training program in the Department of Urology at the University of Toledo is a fully accredited and ACGME certified program. We offer a five year training program for two residents at each year training.
How to Apply:
Our program participates in the AUA early match, and the deadline for receipt of applications is usually in late September. Applications are received only through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
Interviews for the urology residency program begin in October for the upcoming year.
The first post graduate year (PGY) of our residency program is a “pre-urology” year with 10 months spent in general surgical training (plastics, vascular, CT and general). The PGY 2 - 5 years are spent studying general urology and renal transplantation. Residents rotate through three, level 1 trauma hospitals and gain experience in all fields of urology, including pediatrics and robotic surgery.
The mission of the program is to develop a thoughtful and skilled urologists who will successfully attain board certification and who understands the need for continuing medical education throughout his or her professional career.
The University of Toledo's Urology Department's 'clinical Urology service' has been recognized at the national level as being progressive and innovative. It is one of only 15 University programs in the United States where renal transplantations are performed by the urology service.
The Urology residents are highly regarded by the full-time and volunteer faculty in other major disciplines as evidence by the evaluations submitted. UT Urology residents routinely participate in regional and national academic research conferences and have often won awards for their work.
The Urology Residency Program was established in 1950. The program was reviewed by the ACGME Residency Review Committee in December 2011, with full continued accreditation status. The next site visit will take place in 2022.
