Welcome to the University of Toledo Ryan White Program!
Our mission is to provide the highest quality care possible to patients living with HIV/AIDS and to help people achieve and maintain the best health possible. The Ryan White Team consists of doctors, pharmacists, registered nurses, dieticians, counselors, social workers, and consumer advocates dedicated to helping people with many unique and important health care issues associated with HIV. In addition, the Ryan White Program has access to many specialty practices that are located in the University of Toledo Medical Center and that are experienced in providing care to people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA).
Since 1985, The University of Toledo Medical Center has been the leading center in northwest Ohio for HIV care. The University of Toledo has also been the location of the federally funded Ryan White Program since 2000. Through the Ryan White Program, the following services are available for PLWHA: financial counseling, medical care, gynecologic care, on-site pharmacy, confidential HIV testing, psychiatric and counseling services, support groups, clinical research trials, dietary counseling, HIV prevention and education services, pediatric HIV care and prenatal care. HISTORY
The University of Toledo Medical Center (UTMC), founded in 1964, is a state-supported medical school. When the HIV pandemic came to Toledo in the mid 1980s, UTMC took a leading role in HIV education, prevention and treatment in NW Ohio.
UTMC received the first Ryan White grant in 2000. (Part D) and then received Part C funding in 2001. With this grant funding and with hospital support, we were able to offer our patients high quality, comprehensive HIV care services through a multidisciplinary health care team. Our program incorporates Adult Primary Care, Adult and Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Mental Health Counseling, Financial Counseling, Nutritional Counseling, Case Management and Consumer Advocacy and Pharmacy Services with medication counseling. Opportunities to access clinical trials are incorporated into clinic care. We strive to be a “Health Care Home” to our patients and their families.
Case finding and early access to care are important goals of our program. In 1985 M.C.O. opened the first regional free anonymous HIV testing site and now offers free testing at numerous locations around the Toledo area. Collaboration with existing health agencies help us efficiently deliver services to newly diagnosed patients.
